Economics Society

The Economics Society offers its members a forum to discuss current events through an economic lens, speaker events, advice on internship and academic planning, and networking opportunities. Discussion topics are chosen through a biweekly poll on the club’s Facebook group. Students of all majors and years are welcome to join. 

2021-2022 Meetings: Biweekly in Oak 337 from 8:00-9:00 PM on Mondays.

Meet our Executive Board for 2021-22!

President: Nidhi Nair

Nidhi Nair is a junior studying Economics and Mathematics-Statistics. She is a student leader at the Economics Society and Women and Minorities in Economics. Nidhi is also a Werth Innovator, a UN Millennium Fellow and a Residential Assistant at UConn. Over school breaks, she has interned at several research and policy organizations and currently, she is working on an independent research project on financial literacy among underrepresented groups in higher education.

Vice-President: Isha Patel

Isha Patel

Isha serves as the Vice President of the Economics Society. She is a junior pursuing a dual degree in Economics and Human Rights. Isha comes from a background in hotel management which has lead her on the path of making a career in corporate law. Besides being the vice-president of the economics society Isha spends her time mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters and America Reads. Isha will be working on building a similar mentoring network for the economics society members in her time as Vice President of the society.

Treasurer: Nathan Kowalski

Nathan Kowalski is a junior Management and Engineering for Manufacturing (MEM) Major. He is the Secretary for Beta Alpha Psi, as well as the Treasurer for the Economics Society. He is also a member of the MEM Society and mentors his high school FRC team.

Secretary: Isadore Johnson

Isadore

Isadore Johnson is a senior economics and political science major with a minor in statistics. He's the secretary of the Economics Society, CT Young Democrats, a regional coordinator for Students for Liberty, and founder of Huskies For Free Speech. He likes to read, play table tennis, climb, and blog.

Jesse Lau is a Junior Accounting major. He is very active with a variety of leadership positions including being recruitment chair for Beta Alpha Psi, social media coordinator for Economic Society, and treasurer for Healthcare Management Society. He is excited to expand his knowledge of the economic industry and network with fellow students and professionals.

Recruitment Director: Alex Taylor

Alex Taylor

Alex is an economics major, minoring in data analytics and computer science. Besides being involved in the Economics Society, he is co-leader of the Alumni Relations Project Team on the CLAS Leadership Board and is a member of the Data Science club. Apart from academics, he enjoys playing golf, reading and is an avid soccer fan. He was born and raised in South Africa and after pursuing a career in finance, he aims to return to South Africa and help address the socio-economic challenges that the country faces.
