Metin Coşgel is professor of economics at the University of Connecticut. His current research interests include the long-term economic history of the Ottoman Empire, the deep roots and economic consequences of the relationship between state and religion, and the performance impacts of ethnic and racial diversity in American offshore whaling industry.
