PhD Candidate Edlira Cocoli Presents at the Southern Economic Association Meeting

Edlira Cocli (PhD candidate) presenting her researchEdlira Cocoli (PhD candidate) presented  “Economic Shock and State Support for Higher Education: Evidence from the Northeastern U.S. Using Shift Share Identification” at the Annual Conference of the Southern Economic Association in November.

She constructs a measure of Fiscal Stress and estimates the differential impacts of recent economic shocks on university finances.  A sample of Northeast public flagship universities are evaluated for fiscal stress risk, and policy recommendations made to reduce risk exposure.

UConn Well Represented at Southern Economic Association Meetings

The UConn Economics Department was well represented by faculty and graduate students attending the annual Conference of the Southern Economics Association held in New Orleans at the beginning of the Thanksgiving break. Those in attendance included Jorge Agüero, Ken Couch, David Simon, William Alpert, Matt Ross, Tao Song, Ling Huang, and Oskar Harmon.

Prof. Ahking presents paper at conferences

ahking-e1405970870634-150x150Prof. Ahking presented a paper “The Economies of the Great Lakes States” at the 54th Meetings of the Southern Regional Science Association in Mobile, AL, March 26 – 28.  He also presented the paper at the 2014 Southern Economic Association Annual Meetings in Atlanta, GA, in November 2014.
