Students interested in declaring or canceling the economics major may do so by following the steps described below. Advising is available to students wishing to speak to someone about their decision; advising appointments with the Economics Academic Advisor can be made on Nexus. Drop-in hours are also available to discuss with a Peer Academic Assistant.
Declaring the Major
Switching to the Economics Major
Students (regardless of college/school) wishing to declare economics as their major can do so via the CLAS Online Program Change website.
Declaring Economics as a Double Major
Students wishing to declare economics as a double major (two majors in CLAS) should complete a Double Major Declaration Form. Follow the directions on the form, obtaining all of the necessary signatures. For the economics signature, obtain the Advisor’s signature from the Economics Academic Advisor. Return the form to the CLAS Academic Services Center for processing.
Declaring Economics as an Additional/Dual Degree
Students wishing to declare economics as an additional/dual degree (two majors in different colleges) should complete an Additional Degree Petition. Follow the directions on the form, obtaining all of the necessary signatures. For the economics signature, obtain the Advisor’s signature from the Economics Academic Advisor and the Dean’s signature from the CLAS Academic Service Center. Return the form to the Registrar’s Office for processing.
Canceling the Double Major or Dual Degree
Students wishing to switch the economics double major or additional degree to the economics minor must first complete the process for the cancellation of the major. After the cancellation has been processed, students may proceed as indicated on the Economics Minor page for the declaration of the minor.
